Plans Revealed
New designs for a development in Salamanca by Sultan Holdings have been submitted to Hobart City Council. The Montpelier Project is a proposed mixed-use complex on the corner of Montpelier Retreat and Kirksway in Salamanca.
The proposal has been designed to complement the aesthetic of the Salamanca precinct and will significantly increase the activity to the area, introducing more opportunities for local businesses.
The plans represent an amendment from the previously approved submission, after a considerable time spent reviewing them to make sure the mix of uses was right for the area. Plans continue to support the vision of the Sullivans Cove Planning Scheme and include residential accommodation, serviced apartments, parking, a health and wellness centre, activated street edges with shops and some cafe areas fronting a new pedestrian connection from Montpelier Retreat through to Pearce’s Lane.
Some of the differences include the increase of residential space and the decrease in scale of the commercial shops and offices. The hotel has been transformed into serviced apartments and moved closer to Salamanca. The height of the development has not changed although it has been aligned further back and has a different design approach.
One area that has not changed in the plans is the public car park, which will significantly boost the availability and frequency of car parking in Sullivans Cove. The development will contain 360 new public car parks that will be available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year round.
